Degree Requirements | Commencement Ceremony | Multiple or Concurrent Degrees | 2007 Graduates
Getting ready to graduate? Congratulations . . . you’re in the home stretch! Here’s what needs to happen next:
1. Apply for Graduation: Students should complete a graduation application two or three terms prior to when they plan to graduate. Once submitted, COCC’s Admissions & Records Office will evaluate your COCC transcript and any other college transcripts you have on file.
2. Degree Evaluation: Once complete, you will receive a copy of your degree evaluation. This will confirm the courses you have completed that apply to your program and will indicate the courses, or number of credits, needed to complete additional requirements.
For associate of applied science (AAS), associate of science (AS), associate of general studies (AGS), and professional technical certificates, a copy of your degree evaluation, plus any transfer transcripts whose courses were used towards the degree program, will be sent to your faculty advisor. You will continue to work with your advisor until all requirements are complete. When complete, your advisor and department chair sign the degree evaluation and return it to the Admissions and Records Office.
For the associate of arts (AA), a copy of your degree evaluation will be sent to your faculty advisor. However, the Admissions and Records Office is responsible for confirming that all requirements, as stated in the College Catalog, are complete.
3. Review Your Degree Evaluation! Review your evaluation and ask questions if you don’t understand or want to clarify the remaining requirements. Remember, it is the student’s responsibility to be informed about degree requirements and to select the appropriate classes as outlined in the Catalog. You should work closely with your faculty advisor to assure you are on track and have accurate information.
4. Commencement Ceremony: Commencement details are mailed in April to all students who have applied for a certificate or degree. If you wish to participate in the ceremony, you must submit a participation card to the Admissions and Records Office and attend the graduation rehearsal held Friday afternoon.
Graduation announcements, caps, gowns and tassels may be ordered from the Bookstore beginning May 1. Students participating in the ceremony must pick up their gowns by the first week in June.
Graduates will receive a diploma cover during the ceremony. Your diploma is mailed to you at the address on your degree application approximately one month after the end of the term in which you graduate. Graduates who earn a cumulative 3.6 GPA or higher (compiled through winter term) and who participate in the ceremony will receive honor cords.
Unless you have requested that we keep all your records confidential, your name will be printed in the commencement program and in the local newspaper.
Weather permitting, this commencement takes place outdoors on the Mazama field. Therefore, tickets are not required and you can invite all your friends and relatives to share in your well deserved academic achievement!
